Should I wash my hair before I dye it? This is not supposed to be your main concern before dyeing your hair. There are lots of important things to keep in mind, so that you can achieve the look that you want for your hair. There are also different types of dye application and these are the off and on scalp application. All of these things should be remembered, so your hair and scalp will not suffer from any allergic reaction and that the hair color will be very effective too.

The off scalp application is composed of highlighting where parts of the hair are treated with lighter shades; lowlighting is where parts of the hair are treated with darker shades. Certain application like ombre is also famous these days. In doing these techniques, the hairstylist will use a plastic film or a foil to separate the hair that must be colored when applying one or more color.

On scalp application method involves root touch up; this is where the color is placed to various parts of the hair. Another is the all over color where the hair is colored in different solid color. Block coloring is another process wherein the person would want a hundred percent coverage, but with one or more colors.

These processes are hard to achieve if you will do the hair coloring on your own at home. To achieve the best result, you need to go to a nearby salon and let the hairdresser do his/her job on your hair.

You can pick from different kinds of chair coloring like permanent hair color, this is where the oxidation dyes are involved. Another is the demi-permanent hair color wherein the hair dye is composed of an alkaline agent and ammonia. The semi-permanent is also another option, but this one cannot lighten your hair color. Another is the temporary hair color; this is available in different forms that include shampoos, gels, and foams and sprays too. Alternative hair color is another option and it comes in different unusual colors like blue, green, pink and red.

Once you are decided in coloring your hair, you need to pick a color that is based on your skin tone. This is important if you want a satisfying result after the process. You also need to make sure that you do an allergy test first before you go on with the coloring process. Some people are normally allergic to hair coloring of whatever type. This means they cannot color their hair anymore even if the hair color is made up of natural materials. Some of these people are sensitive with the agents visible in the hair color. You can do an allergy test first before you go on with the process. Some do the test by putting on a small amount of mixture at the back of the ear. This part is very sensitive, so after 24 hours to 48 hours, it may react to the mixture you have applied. Only then you will know if it is safe for you to continue or not.

  1. If you want better results it’s best to wait 1-2 days after washing. The oils in the shampoo/conditioner can effect the outcome of the color. Then afterwards it usually comes with a conditioner and to wait 1-2 days afterwards to wash your hair again. Hope this helps 🙂

  2. Hi… I’ve been letting my white hair grow out for 4 years now… It seems that only the top layer is white and the rest is brown with a few white hairs throughout. I’m tired of waiting for it to grow out complety white.(which is what i would like) so I’m going to color it a semi permanent golden blond first to see if i like it.. My question is… Will it color the rest of the hair too or just the white?
